Charlotte's Story
Charlotte Moriarty has been attending Skills for Growth since 2009 and has rapidly progressed from our Entry to Employment (Foundations) programme to now study her Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. Before joining Skills for Growth, Charlotte went to a local sixth form in Sidcup but soon became disenchanted with the formal education route. “I left there and was not really sure what career path I wanted to take, so I joined Skills for Growth and started my Apprenticeship journey.” Through her professionalism and hard work Charlotte was able to secure a placement within the London Borough of Bexley Library Service working towards an NVQ level 2 in Customer Service and now her level 3.
Charlotte joined Skills for Growth after receiving recommendations from a couple of friends and she thought it would be a great way to gain work experience and achieve qualifications at the same time. “I wanted to work with people in a customer facing context and thought an Apprenticeship was a good way of doing this.”
“I have enjoyed all my time as an Apprentice at Skills for Growth and also within the Library Service. Everyone has been really supportive and given me lots of different opportunities.”
Charlotte is popular amongst everyone on her course and the Skills for Growth staff.
“Charlotte is a reliable and trustworthy young person who has supported her tutor and her peers throughout her apprenticeship and now while on her Advanced Apprenticeship. Nothing is ever too much trouble for her; she is a true ambassador for Skills for Growth” Gillian Dewy, Customer Service Tutor and Assessor, Skills for Growth
“My apprenticeship has been an excellent training experience and it has opened up so many opportunities that I might not otherwise have had. In addition to the NVQ I have attended a minute taking course, achieved the Level 2 CLAIT qualification and I am currently doing my EDCL. I have had the chance to work with such different people and customers. I think it’s a great idea to be able to achieve a qualification as well as getting paid at the same time, also it has allowed me to get real work experience that is going to benefit me in my future career.”
